1.9 Confessing

When Charles woke up the next morning, he was in a pool of sweat because he had the most terrifying dream ever! Here’s what had happened-

He and Laura were at a party and he pulled her away from the crowd. He was about to confess his feelings,

when some random guy popped out from a nearby bush.

Then out of the blue, he knelt and pulled out a ring and asked Laura to marry him,

and to Charles’ surprise, she actually accepted!

 

Today, I will tell her how I feel. It’s now or never.

Weirdly enough, the whole situation resembled his dream. It was Friday which meant they were at one of the parties down at the Bluffs. He pulled Laura away just like he did in his dream.

“What’s wrong Charles?”

“I…” he stopped and looked around. There it was- that bush from where the random guy had popped out.

 

“Where? Ok let’s just sit here” she said pointing at one of the rocks.

“Ok. Laura there’s something I wanna tell you.”

“Yup, I’m listening…”

“Yes it does! At the nightclub, do you remember?” he asked smiling awkwardly.

She laughed. “I still remember that look on your face when you were busted!”

“Yeah, so…” he paused. What do I say? There was a long awkward pause. He stood up and Laura followed,“Is everything ok? You look worried.” she asked with a concerned look on her face.

The truth was he had no idea what to say, or rather how to say it. Whenever his eyes met hers, it sent a shiver down his spine. He simply couldn’t find the right words. He felt warm and cold all at the same time. He tried his best to keep a neutral look on his face but was unsuccessful. He even tried hiding his anxiety by sliding his trembling hands into his pockets and that’s when he found the note he’d written last night.

Of course he had decided to never show it to Laura, but he had no choice. Plus, he had already made a fool of himself by stammering so he wasn’t really worried about being embarrassed anymore. He pulled it out and handed it to her with shivering hands. “R-read this” he stuttered.

When she was done reading, she looked up at him with an expression, Charles couldn’t make out. He was almost ready to be slapped or worse to see her run away and never talk to him again, but what she did actually, came as a surprise!
