“Mom, dad, this is Laura.”
“Oh, she’s beautiful!” exclaimed Charles’ mother as she went on to hug Laura.
It had been only two days since Charles had confessed that he invited Laura over to his house to meet his parents. He felt it was all rushed, but his parents, particularly his mother was really excited to meet her possible future daughter-in-law.
He’d tried convincing his mother, the day before, to delay the plan, but she was adamant.
“Geez mom, it’s not like we’re engaged and going to get married in a week.”
“Oh you don’t say a word Charles. You don’t know, girls love it when boys introduce them to their parents, it makes them feel special.”
“But Laura is not like other girls!”
“Every boy thinks of his girlfriend that way. Believe me, she’ll love it!”
And she did seem to love the warm hugs she’d been receiving the moment she entered the house, considering she was smiling the whole time. He showed her the house while his mom fixed dinner. She’d prepared Caprese Salad and Chicken Saltimbocca, what she always prepared during family dinners.
At dinner, Charles and his mother did most of the talking. She praised her son and exclaimed how proud she was of him for starting his own business at such a young age.
Charles on the other hand, praised Laura- how she brought out his wild side, how she could drink more alcohol than he could, how she had five times the friends he had, how she could party all night and yet never complain of hangovers.
His parents laughed and seemed pretty impressed but Laura on the other hand appeared embarrassed by all the details he was giving them.
When dinner was over his dad said, “It was great having you, Laura. We’re looking forward to meeting you again. You should come over for Christmas, I’m sure the rest of the family will love to meet you!”
“I’ll definitely try! Thank you so much for having me, the dinner was amazing Mrs. McDougal.”
“Oh don’t even mention it, sweetie” and she hugged her and placed a kiss on her cheek.
“So…?” Charles asked, as they walked down the street to Laura’s home that was just a few blocks away.
“Oh… well. Guess that’s a story for another day” she said pointing to her house. “I should get some sleep. Need to wake up early for work tomorrow!”
As she made her way to the front door, he thought to himself, I’m so in love with her!
